Sansevieria Cylindrica is an attractive succulent plant with stiff cylindrical leaves. Leaves grow out from a basal rosette and have no stems. This plant belongs to the genus Dracaena from the Asparagaceae family.
Indigenous to south tropical Africa, particularly Angola.
Foliage
Evergreen and stiff foliage that grows fan-shaped. It has cylindrical, long, greenish-gray colored leaves. Each leaf has thin vertical stripes and horizontal light green bands.
Size
The plant can grow up to 6-7 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. Leaves are almost 1 inch in diameter, and taper gradually to the peak. The flower stalk can grow to the height of 3 feet.
Once a year, tall flower spikes rise from the leaf base. Each spike grows clusters of delicate tubular shaped greenish-white flowers. Flowers are 1-1.5" long, lightly fragrant and have a pinkish tint.
Low maintenance plant which is less likely to get infected by pests and diseases. It is resistant to verticillium wilt, but can get attacked by vine weevils and mealy bugs.
Propagate this plant by root division when it is medium to large size. Leaf cuttings (3-4 inches long) can also be grown in moist sand.
Growth Season
This evergreen plant actively grows during spring-summer season. Flowering period is usually winter-spring. It blooms at a younger age than other Sansevierias.
