Features
Origin
Indigenous to south tropical Africa, particularly Angola.
Size
The plant can grow up to 6-7 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. Leaves are almost 1 inch in diameter, and taper gradually to the peak. The flower stalk can grow to the height of 3 feet.
Foliage
Evergreen and stiff foliage that grows fan-shaped. It has cylindrical, long, greenish-gray colored leaves. Each leaf has thin vertical stripes and horizontal light green bands
Flower
Once a year, tall flower spikes rise from the leaf base. Each spike grows clusters of delicate tubular shaped greenish-white flowers. Flowers are 1-1.5" long, lightly fragrant and have a pinkish tint.
Toxicity
All parts of the plant are mildly toxic if ingested. It can affect both humans and animals. Poisoning can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea etc.
Growth Season
This evergreen plant actively grows during spring-summer season. Flowering period is usually winter-spring. It blooms at a younger age than other Sansevierias.
Pests
Low maintenance plant which is less likely to get infected by pests and diseases. It is resistant to verticillium wilt, but can get attacked by vine weevils and mealy bugs.
Propagation
Propagate this plant by root division when it is medium to large size. Leaf cuttings (3-4 inches long) can also be grown in moist sand.
Growing Conditions
Water
This drought-tolerant plant doesn't need frequent watering. Water once every other week in growing season, and once a month during winters.
Light
Ideal conditions are bright indirect sunlight or partially shaded areas. However, it can also grow in low light.
Soil
Sandy, gritty and well-draining soil is best suitable. Recommended soil mix consists of 3 parts loam and 1 part pumice.
Environment
Well suited for indoors and outdoors. Ideal temperature range is between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Protect from strong air vents and temperature below 50°F.
